This isn’t the usual schedule, but for this week, my Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday Folk, I’d like to give another snippet of Spectre of the Golden Voice.
The plot’s still being worked on, but this is a rough blurb…
When Krissi’s singing whilst working in the bowels of the theatre draws the attention of the theatre’s infamous Ghost, she finds herself under his private tutelage and thrust into the spotlight when tragedy threatens to shut down the theatre. As would-be suitors flock to her side to share her newfound fame, Krissi finds herself torn between protecting her family and following her heart.
This snippet picks up where last week’s ended…
Krissi turned on her stool. “Ruffians?” she echoed, barely managing to stifle her amusement. Trust her self-proclaimed protector to look upon the vris Mhanek and see a petty thug. Other nobles were worse in his eyes, so why not the emperor’s son? “When it’s the royal box? We’d the vris Mhanek in residence.” She gave the ring one last admiring glance. “And he liked my performance.”
Don’t forget to check out the other excerpts at Rainbow Snippets, too.
Very intriguing.

I sense some kinship with The Phantom of the Opera. Without the music, of course.

I wouldn’t be so cruel as to torture people with my sad attempts at lyrics. But there will be a little magic.

I wonder what Ghost has against the royalty…

Not just royalty. All nobility. They’re the whole reason he became him.

Yup. I wasn’t going to, but my own muse is entranced by the idea of something PotO themed set in a realm with elves, magic and lots of stabbing that she won’t shut up.

I feel like she has some connection to this royal son, which might make things interesting between her and Ghost. I’m curious to know why he doesn’t like nobles.

Ha! It would sure give Darshan one heck of a fright to find himself related to a half-elven woman born in the slums of the empire’s culture capital.
Shall I tell you why Ghost dislikes them? I think I will. It’s not the full story, but… it all begins with: he was a slave.

And the plot thickens! Love it. Now I wonder how long he’s been dead and how long he lived as a slave, and also HOW he died.

I’m on Ghost’s side (get out of his box, you ruffians!)

How dare they use it! Doesn’t everyone know it’s his?

Oh, I just read some of your answers, and I like where this is going. What did the nobles do to him? Or even more importantly – who was he before

Before he was Ghost, he was a pretty elven slave boy.
