Rainbow Snippets: No body, no hope..

Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week and share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation.

This month, the snippets will be from my current work-in-progress, Tracking Trouble. It’s a prequel to In Pain and Blood starring Tracker, a King’s Hound from Demarn, who is also the elf responsible for the massive rewriting haul that has become the Spellster and the Hound series. Unlike a lot of my other stories, this isn’t a romance.

We’ll start off at the very beginning…

Tracker hated hunting in the rain. Never mind that it dulled his senses or left him soaked from head to toe. The shivering trickle of water along his ears was the most aggravating. Each droplet that ran off his earrings left him wishing he’d as much sense there as a human.

A cloak would see him dry and warm, more or less. He had one, although it currently sat balled up in his rented inn room. He refused to gift his prey any chance to set his clothes on fire, especially when this one was cunning enough to have already taken out a fellow King’s Hound.

He hadn’t seen a body, of course. No one had. But Chaser had set off on his task days ago. When it came to hunting down rogue spellsters, lack of contact with a hound for so long meant one thing only.

Chaser was dead.

Tracker will be back next weekend to share more. In the meantime, check out these other snippets.

    1. To In Pain and Blood, yes. It’ll have Tracker’s pov and a few additional scenes from Dylan, plus tweaks to other chapters, an altered final ending to bring it in line with the rest of the solidified worldbuilding and, the biggest change of all, it’ll be split in two.
The rest of the stories within the spellster universe will remain untouched.

  1. Ah Tracker. I’ve been looking forward to Tracker. I also feel guilty as hell because I haven’t posted a review for TPaP yet. I started rereading from the beginning after it released and then life happened. I even converted it text-to-speech that way I could listen while on my way to work and home, but it’s weird hearing stuff pronounced differently than I did in my brain when reading with my eyes and I think the differences are a bit too much for me. I might have to stick it on my desktop at work since I’m most used to blazing through your chapters on my lunch. Yes, I think that is what I will do. I hope you can forgive me for being so damn late with it all.
